Floral, a lightish 'BdM'; sundried tomatoes, and cherries; meat sauce, tea-leaves; leather and other tertiary tones. Quite a nose for a humble Rosso. Made in a more accessible version of the Brunello, this 2014 gives already with a developed palate. It tastes dried black cherry, star anise and roasted coffee bean alongside firm but fleeting tannins that give it a rather short finish and lesser structure(acidity, abundant yet fine tannins) and a great personality. Also, this Rosso is younger and more relaxed to the palate, with classic Sangiovese fruit and wood spice profile. On its own, without comparing to its seniors Il Poggione BdM and its Reserva, the finish is slightly less than 2015 and 2016 Rossos. Nenetheless it is slightly more complex. It is produced entirely from Sangiovese grapes sourced from the estate's younger vineyards situated from 150 metres to 450 metres on the slopes. Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino 2014 aged in large casks and barriques before a period of bottle ageing. JS90.
