Tasting Notes: Batch 2 Match 2015 Pre Stock-take Blow-out.
La Croix Baraillet 2008 Margaux AOC, the special cuvee of Chateau Desmirail 4th Growth Margaux, gives slightly more power and structure for the class. Nose is similar to the first wine Chateau Desmirail; but this needs more air to level out the apparent high alcohol level. Inky dark and bright red fruit, as well as a rich, plummy palate with silky finish should be the reward of that patience well spent. DD90.
Chateau Teynac 2004 St Julien. Dry plum fruit and sweet spices with some graphite, truffle and earth notes giving a savoury edge. Rim variance shows ageing, but its refined style nonetheless makes for very fine claret rare to own now. Why not try out elements the ‘British’ taste, if you are getting weary by the fruit bombs? Arsenics? No worries and no headache. DD89.
Château Bellevue Oaked Cuvee 2009, Monbazillac. Aged in mostly new oak barrels (90% French oak and 10% American oak; super value!!), Semillon based with a pinch of Muscadelle and Sauvignon Blanc complete the taste with simple ripe tropical fruit(pineapple, banana) apricots and citruses. Best with simple and fresh fruits, lighter cheese, celery and mixed nuts. Château Bellevue is located on 84 hectares (208 acres) of vineyard and produces a range of Bordeaux whites and reds. The château is located on a large hill, overlooking the vineyards, and is locally nicknamed the "Tuscany of Bordeaux". DD 86.
Domaine de Carbonnieu 2009, Sauternes. Bright Gold. Bouquet of exotic fruit and light oak. On palate, intermingled(white fruits, vanilla and wood). A small delight to the palate, this Sauternes gives a slight ‘explosion’ of freshness. A wine for consummating the dinner. The Domain that benefits from an exceptional geographic location (Encircled classified growths), a 20 hectares divided into 60 parcels in the communes of Bommes and Preignac. To me, this taste likes a lesser cru and so this is a super value with great quality. Semillon 90% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle 5% flourish on gravelly soil.
Chateau Langlais Organic 2000, Puissequin St. Emilion. Fully matured: garnet color, good intensity. Dry berry and cherry fruit, Kirch and spice. Well balanced with melted tannins. Ageing using 2 wine barrels for 12 months; so it is woody!!(A soft reminder). The soil mostly clay and limestone is planted three varieties of Bordeaux: Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Old vines, so it may be too intense and deep for some tasters. Organic from the label sounds almost heavenly. Safer than some cheap and reckless wines from Napa!!
Domaine Benoit Cantin, Irancy 1998, Burgundy. Behind elegant nose hides a powerful and wrapped mouth footprint notes of leather and musk instantly associates the nose of game. Honestly this wine taste and nose aged: it is a simple but balanced wine, showing a lot of Burgundy character for a price that makes it easy to enjoy and shows a lot of Burgundy character a. But the issue is on how to put it on performance. Our suggestion is: handle your expectation as this guy is from west of Chablis with elegant fruit, stands it up right for one night before serving. At serving, concentrate the fruit by slightly chilling it to 12 to 14C. Treat it like a baby. Always with roast game type of food.
Chateau Pingoy 2012, Graves White. Balanced mixed of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Simple green fruit with a ripeness and classic minerality ideal as a good lunch or food wine, or as an uncomplicated started or aperitif. What more can you expect?
Domaine Dubois Chorey-Les-Beaune 1998. As an ‘underdog’ in the non-cru area, this wine gives extreme value. It is a simple but balanced wine, showing a lot of Burgundy character for a price that makes it easy to enjoy and shows a lot of Burgundy character a. But the issue is on how to put it on performance. Our suggestion is: concentrate the fruit by slightly chilling it to 12 to 14C, poured 3 figures down and let the wine breath in the bottle for 20 to 30 minutes. If you can, serve this as a food wine with roast game (like roast goose).
