Vietti Lazzarito Barolo 2008, DOCG.

We love the labels of Vietti Winery: it looks like a Versace. The bold orange reds recall some paintings from the Tang Dynasty: artistic and peculiar. Using Serralunga single vineyard fruit in above 40+ year-old vines, this 2008 will be structural and rewards those those are patience enough. 30 months wood ageing, among which 24 months in Slovanian oak points to makers’ preferences skew towards traditional palate.

These 10 bottle we have on hand are rare, as the annual production are only 3000 bottles. Lazzarito is a distance runner in a bottle: impeccable shape and balance as it is very Serralunga, and the tannins are muscular and ripple at the edges of the palate. NOse of ripe chocolate and dark cherry fruits, quite deep and ripe, showing very elemental for now, precisely ripe. Now, those tannins, they roll unstoppably and gently command things on the palate. Terrific length here; super wine. WA93+
