2002 The Perfect Champagne Vintage
Obviously no ink needs to be spilt on our love for Champagne. But on VIntage 2002, I would love write something this morning. With a warm but not too hot summer and a dry, sunny autumn, the climate in Champagne in 2002 was as close to perfect as you can get. Alcohol levels were just right, combined with good acidity to balance the wines, these Champagnes have ripe fruit, a beautiful pale colour and incredibly fine bubbles: all signs of great quality.
Comparable to 1982, 1990 and 1996, an acclaimed vintage in Champagne, these bottles are now becoming of age and will provide immediate pleasure; though like all top vintage Champagnes will mature well for decades. Out of all the latest releases, 2002 really is the star amongst its competitors. Now is the right time to stock up on this fantastic vintage. Rumours has it the 2008 will be on par with 2002 so we will have to wait another couple of years before we will see another vintage with the same qualitative characters.
