Chateau Ferriere 2011, Margaux 3rd Growth

The misintepretation of Chateau Ferriere as a young brother of Chateau Lascombes(Ferriere was leased to Alexis LIchine of Lascombes and Prieure Lichine in 1960, and hence), and Chateau Ferriere's apparent lack of 'branding 'and personality(as merely one amongst many of the famous crus of the current owner Villars Family also owns Chateau Chasse Spleen in Moulis, Chateau Haut Bages Liberal in Pauillac, Chateau Domeyne in St. Estephe and Chateau La Gurgue in Margaux) contributes to its ‘obscurity’.

Well, that is not a bad thing. And on the contrary that is good new for the drinkers for the super-values!! Just look at this very ‘underdog’ price-$298 per bottle for Margaux Third Growth-and surely you understand, and no ink needs to be spilt.

The USPs. First, it is a true Margux, not Arsac, Avensen, Labarde, Soussans or Cantenac, and so the finese is born with it. Second, Ferriere 2011 with structure, power, typicity and balance, which reflects the 2011 character. Last but not least, no bad scores too, for example NM92, JS90.

Chateau Ferriere 2011 offers bright strawberry, blackcurrant fruit. It combines power and finesse. Palate is tight with fine tannins. Smallest of the cru vineyards, the 12 hectare vineyard of Chateau Ferriere has a terroir of gravel with chalk and sand in their soils. The vineyard of Chateau Ferriere is planted to 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot with vines that are on average 35 years of age, which explained the full spectrum of nose and nose, and well their power and diversity. Vine density10,000 vines per hectare so the nose and palate is intense. Chateau Ferriere is now moving in the direction of organic farming techniques. Vinification takes place in a combination of temperature controlled, stainless steel vats and large wood tanks for about 20 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels and tank. The wines are aged in up to 60% new, French oak barrels for about 18 months. So to the traditionalist, this is a good, old, and modern Margaux.

We have been selling this vintage since its vintage 1996. Good comments through; problem-free.
