JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese 2007

The JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich vineyard is as precious as the JJ Prum Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard. Full of apricot, peach fruit, lemon oil the palate with mineral overtones and compact structure, JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese 2007 is a nimble, broader style than the Sonnenuhr Spätlese 2007 and more immediately approachable. Compared to Wehlener Sonnenuhr 2007, Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese 2007 has ripe fruit showing energy and tension, a little bit more body, if not quite the complexity or length. While it may have more amount of botrytis/noble rot, it does not have that 'light-being' of Wehlener Sonnenuhr 2007.

Vineyard Graacher Himmelreich, Mosel

Rightly put by Tanzer on structure and texture of JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese 2007, this wine is still ‘light and lively yet velvety on the palate. Rose petal and saline minerality mingle on the crisp, well-balanced, lipsmacking finish, which is long and elegant.’ It is stil lyoung like a baby and has great ageing potential. We think it should be more than 10 years to drink real fresh.

Another value of this wine is its flexible serving: as apéritif, and as wonderful partner to rich dishes like foie gras moderately sweetened desserts like apple or apricot tartes.

Some other good comments are:

  • WS93

Wine Spectator - "High-toned floral, citrus and red berry aromas introduce this delicate Riesling, which is marked by finesse and a gossamer frame, unveiling its citrus and peach flavors in a fleeting manner. Fine length. Drink now through 2035."

  • W&S93

Wine & Spirits - "Prüm's 2007s are exceptionally pure and filigreed, and this is no exception. It's intense without being weighty, its ripe fruit showing energy and tension. As with the Spätlese, this feels more open in its youth than the Sonnenuhr Auslese does, showing a little bit more body, if not quite the complexity or length. "
