2010 Les Tourelles de Longueville, Pauillac

Awarded WS92 WE92 JS92, Les Tourelles de Longueville 2010 got the verdict amongst international tasters. It is an excellent Second Wine. Being a small brother of the Super Second Chateau Pichon-Baron, this wine often introduces the style of its Grand Vin and is fantastic in its right!

By second wine standard, this is, as rightly put by Parker et al., fat and plump, oozes ‘oodles of black currants, cherries, spice box, roasted herbs and a hint of barbecue smoke'. Second wines usual are shorter in fruit length, but this one gives the significant impression (see Jeanne Cho Lee's tasting notes on the long length). It is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon to deliver purity of fruit purity of cassis fruit which eclipses many a Cru Classé.

Christian Seeley in the EP tasting years back also says he believes it is the best he has ever made.

So, lovers of authentic Pauillac, that is the wine! That is the wine that delivers cru quality and won’t break your bank. Can improve over time.

Aromas of blueberries and spices with lots of fresh flowers. Full body, with a beautiful core of ripe fruit that balances beautifully with the tannins and bright acidity. A wine for the future yet so enjoyable now. Second wine of Pichon Baron. (2/2013)

Dark, sleek and inviting, with gorgeous plum cake, fig and blackberry coulis notes mixing with melted licorice snap and tar on the finish. Not small by any stretch, with mouthwatering acidity and vivacity pulling you in now. Should develop with cellaring. Drink now through 2025. (JM) (3/2013)

This has power, you can feel the alcohol from the Merlot in the blend. At the same time, the fruit drives through with great juiciness.
