2016 EP Chateau Reynon, Blanc and Rouge
Pale straw with green hue, Reynon Blanc 2016 oozes classic grapefruit and citrus fruit and white flowers. The palate drenches with minerality which is rounded by ripe Sauvignon fruit (90% Sauvignon Blanc). It is clothed by a thin layer of 'baby-fat' (10% Semillon) and gives a good length and texture. High and dense fruit length of over 5 seconds interspersed by slight wood spice (33% new oak), this little will age well for 3 years and beyond. The wine maker is great professor Denis Dubourdieu who died the same year. In the past he had been caring this little white parcel by parcel in the style of his other famed properties like Château Doisy-Daëne, Clos Floridène. We are confident with his new style of very economical AC Bordeaux ($850 per 12 bottles). ABV 12.5%.
Reynon Rouge 2016 glitters deep ruby and oozes ripe, black-fruit aromas(plums and dark cherries). Palate is freshly balanced (nice acidities and soft/ample tannins). Simple and friendly, this little red with decent length, ripeness and licorice can age for another 5 years and beyond, given the high quality and well-pruned 82% merlot,13% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot. The vineyard for the red is on a south-facing slope overlooking the Garonne. Merlot ripens early here, as early as in Pomerol in fact, hence, as we were told. So this red is at Bordeaux AC price($1020 per 12) with almost Pomerol style of fruit. ABV 13.5%.
Château Reynon, which was Denis and Florence(children of Denis) Bouourdieu’s home property.
