2016 EP Clos des Jacobins, Pomerol.

The nose is elegant and expressive, with vivid dark cherries, floral fragrances(violets), blackcurrant and spices. Of right balance, the palate is structured with nice acidities, velvety with full tannins, fleshy with fruit, and shows touches of minerality and salinity on the finish. Grape composition is 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Complexity is adequate.

The Clos des Jacobins have been tasted by us since its 1997 vintage; we find this vintage 2016 pretty. Insiders always like this wine.

Scores are controversial.

Neal Martin

88-90

The 2016 Clos des Jacobins has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, pressed flowers and a touch of bay leaf. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly chewy entry. This feels bold and assertive, quite dense but it needs more delineation and precision towards the finish. Not bad, but it could be better. - Wine Advocate #230, April 2017

James Suckling

93-94

Dense and rich red with layers of fruit and ripe tannins. Full and flavorful. Shows lovely potential here. Remake of the 2015 but fresher. - March 2017
