Chateau La Croix du Casse 2000, Pomerol

Beautiful aromatics of rose, cassis, plums, tea leaves showing Pomerol ability to make some of the most excellent right-bank Bordeaux wines. The floral nose matches with sandalwood and cedary tones. Tannins by now are fine and silky and are becoming a beautiful texture to go along with the rich finish, aromas and flavours atypical of Pomerol. Structured. Medium finish. The best time to taste is now.

Of course 2000 vintage is a spectacular Pomerol as well, and it shows in the glass here with tradition and simplicity, with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 80% of Merlot. ABV is still fine at 13%. Time spent in barrel is roughly18 months. Average vine age is 30 year-old. Vineyard size is around 8 Ha. It is on the whole similar to the famous Chateau Clinet fetching a much higher price. hence this wine is of excellent value.

The Chateau La Croix du Casse vineyard extends to the southern tip of the Pomerol plateau, on soils composed of gravel and ancient sands with a good proportion of iron scum. The property acquired by the Castéja family in 2005 when a series of modernisation starts.
