Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
This understated wine Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is paradoxically one of the most 'documented' wine, so it may not wise to buff unduly on it. Suffice to say Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon overall is the icon of Australian wine and the beacon of quality. It is a perennial favourite in auction circles(Langtons, for example). Also, this Black Label series, along with Wynn's John Riddock, formed favourite tasting themes of HKWS in the past.
Wynns Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is a full-bodied, rich and round Cabernet Sauvignon whose clean, juicy, mouthwatering cassis fruit is framed by cedar, vanilla and baking spices. Its finish showcases fine tannins and Cabernet structure. Alcohol is relatively modest by Australian standard, at ABV13.8%.
Where Wynn's single vineyards (such as Harold Cabernet Sauvignon, Johnson's Block Cabernet Sauvignon, Child's Cabernet Sauvignon, Single Vineyard Alex 88, Single Vineyard Glengyle Cabernet Sauvignon, Single Vineyard Messenger Cabernet Sauvignon)show peculiars of each one of them, this Black Label show excellent Cabernet and Coonawarra stylistics.
Sourced from 17 vineyards across Coonawarra, this wine made only in the best year which shall have something to say for themselves, and this 2015 is the 60th release. Around 30% from the north of Coonawarra’s terra tossa(red soil outcrop) cigar strip, 20% from the south and the rest from the centre. It was aged for 18 months in French oak from 8 different cooper – barriques, vats and puncheons. Twenty per cent of the oak was new. This composition remains almost the same from 1954 up till now. It ages extremely well. To known even more, read Sarah Ahmed's https://thewinedetective.co.uk/blog/wynns-coonawarra-estate-black-label-cabernet-60th-anniversary-vertica
