Le G de Guiraud 2020, Blanc

We re-taste in a roll 2020, 2019, 2016 and 2015 G de Guiraud. The 2015 G de Guiraud remains ripe, soft, and fruity- though the fruit level is dropping off a little. 2016 remains structured, always intense with minerality to the palate and nose. 2019 balanced with lots of citrus/grapefruit elements built around a ripe stone fruit core. Textured(sur lees), with some fatness, its' wood tones give a sense of 'class'(expensive, you may surmise)and 'mystery'(which classification, you may wonder) regardless of the low price and absolute mystery. 2020 is fresher and richer in the mouthfeel than all earlier vintages. It is juicier with lime and lemongrass and very aromatic. ABV is 13.5%

A high-quality dry white from the famous Premier Grand Cru Classes Sauternes Chateau Guiraud is well represented by prestigious merchants worldwide. But, consider the making; this white, regardless of vintage, are excellent buys from good, slow-ripe vintages. Production is small, like 2500 cases from a mere 15 ha. Vineyards. Soil type is composed of sandy gravel for 80% of the surface and clay gravel for the remainder, and with fine sands, pure stone crossed through with red clay and limestone marls, fossilised oyster bed and red and white clay as sub-soils.

Planting is dense, like over 6600 vines per ha and vine age is over 15 years old. Harvest is hand-picked by successive selections through the vines (1 to 2 samples) on ripe and healthy grapes. Fermentation in new oak barrels has been barreling used for the grand cru, and it lasts two weeks. After that, ageing takes place from 6 to 9 months in barrels, regularly stirring the lees and the texture.

This 2020 white shall be versatile with foods. Classically, it works fine with salads, scallops and prawns from different cook styles. However, it may also work with satays, mild curries, sashimi, and all dishes with a citrusy touch and finish.

Scores for 2020 are JS92 and 92 Decanter. We expected even more reviews and higher scores will be awarded.
