Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Classic, Margaret River Cabernet with lots of purples and red-violet hues despite its ten years of life. With 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, it spent 21 months in 40% new wood. Very modern and lively.

Great Cab fruit, minty and earthy, with no noticeable old tertiary tones such as leather and green liquorice! 2012 is one of the most outstanding vintages, with even ripeness. It's so much more generous than previous years, with plenty of purples and ripe dark fruit. On the palate, the blackcurrant fruit but tightens up nicely with grainy oak and then grippy tannins—a long finish. 13.5% ABV seems right.

Impressive scores, 97JS and 96HH. JS writes, 'This is a linear and beautiful wine as always with currant, floral, mint and wet earth. Graphite. Rust. Metal shavings. Full body, chewy and tight with reserve and intensity. A truly excellent wine. Just a baby. Screw cap. Give it another three years. But love now. Score - 97.
